So, I wrote a blog post earlier this month: End 2018 with a Bang and Set Goals for 2019.
Now, it is a few weeks later, and 2018 is coming to a close in 16 days and for those that celebrate Christmas, it is 15 days away…
Did you sit down and reflect at all about your 2018 year? Have you thought about the upcoming 2019 year?
This is what I asked in that blog post:
Time to evaluate how 2018 went. What was a success? What needs more work? What went pretty well? Any mistakes or regrets? Anything you wished had gone differently?
Now, I am not the only one who encourages reflection and planning. One of the individuals I follow and who presents good information is Marie Forleo, and this is what she wrote in 2016. Margaret Wheatley said, “Without reflection, we go blindly on our way, creating more unintended consequences, and failing to achieve anything useful.”
Marie Forleo also said, “Before you decide on your New Year goals, take the time to reflect on what you’ve learned these past 12 months.”
- What’s one thing you did that you’re proud of?
- What’s one mistake you made and the lesson you learned?
- What’s one limiting story you’re ready to let go of before the New Year?
Sit down and whether it is my questions from a few paragraphs above or Marie Forleo’s; really take the time to reflect on 2018 and plan for 2019.
What I am most proud of: 3 part answer as I have a few things-
- Getting married a 2nd time.
- Publishing my 1st solo book: The Upbringing that Encircles Me: A Memoir on Amazon on December 10, 2018. Currently, it is an eBook only, but softcover version to follow.
- Adjusting and accepting my fall from 9 weeks ago (today) where I tripped going up the stairs in my home; hitting my left shoulder and the left side of my face. It has been a long recovery with the concussion and frozen/locked left shoulder joint. I have not succumbed to negativity or wallowed much. The first few weeks I could do almost nothing-I listened to amazing podcasts and music. As I started to feel a bit better each day-screen time limited on ambient light setting has been amazing. I went 6 weeks without watching anything on screens and still no regular TV as the blue light hurts my eyes and head. I push myself and challenge myself as I want my brain to heal and I want new neurons to fire up! I still have light sensitivity, certain sound sensitivity, no crowds, headaches come and go, sleep issues (I have not had a solid night of 6-7 hours sleep in 9 weeks), memory, distraction, impatience, and comprehension issues continue.
What’s one mistake you made and the lesson you learned?
I do not feel I made any mistakes. I made some difficult choices, but to me what matters is I learned from them and grew both personally and professionally.
What’s one limiting story you’re ready to let go of before the New Year?
I need to learn to be more comfortable with conflict and in managing/improving my finances. Divorce is hard on many levels, but definitely financially. I want to continue to lower my debt, increase savings, and continue to put aside some money for the future while providing for my family.
