Formatting an eBook and Paperback

I am planning to finish formatting my manuscript: The Upbringing that Encircles Me: a Memoir this week so I can publish it on Amazon.ca and hopefully Amazon.com as well. My goal is to have the book published by the end of November; latest 1st week of December.

I have been doing due diligence and reading books and reviewing websites and other resources to see the best way to format both an eBook version and a paperback version. Different requirements for both.

All a learning curve for me, but I am up to the task as I see this as a way to help heal my brain, as I am forcing myself to do something I have never done before.

Recovering from a concussion and frozen left shoulder is not fun and it has been a very long 6 weeks, but slowly, day by day, I am getting better even if it is incremental steps that seem tiny or miniscule. Physiotherapy, osteopath, massage therapy are all helping along with naturopathy. My family doctor makes sure the medical scientific side is looked after.

So, my go to books for self-publishing are:

  1. The Author’s Guide to Self-Publishing for Canadians by Barb Drozdowich
  2. Create Space & Kindle Self-publishing Masterclass, 2nd Edition new for 2015 (they have since merged on Amazon). by Rick Smith
  3. Social Media for Writers: Marketing Strategies for Building Your Audience and Selling Books by Tee Morris & Pip Ballantine

I have also hired a PR & Digital Marketer to help me with social media, marketing the book, strategy, and she has over 10 years experience in working in traditional publishing.

I am choosing the indie publishing/self-publishing route. I want control over my book, when to offer reduced or free eBooks, promotions, etc.

      Rea-I wish I was at full tilt- not yet, but slowly getting better. today awoke with a headache and yesterday afternoon I had to nap for an hour as my head hurt and my eyes ached. If I try to overdo it, this is what happens…… I work in spurts and accomplish in spurts.
