Book Teaser 2: The Upbringing that Encircles Me

I like to think I do the best I can. We are a blended family, which comes with its own set of issues and challenges. I have two girls and my husband has a grown-up son. My ex has a long time girlfriend who is divorced and has two kids in shared custody as well.

Girls are very different than boys. Moodiness, self-esteem issues, friends, school, and… they challenge you. Okay, both boys and girls challenge their parents and, at times I believe they think they have to, to keep us on our toes.

Divorce of course throws a lot of turmoil into the mix as now they go back and forth between the parents and each parent has a different temperament, set of rules, expectations. With co-parenting, you hope you are both on the same page, all the time. However,  most likely you, are not. One will be stricter and one more lenient.

To me, that is a fact. I am the ‘stricter’ parent, but I like to think I am because I am a mom. I also grew up in the country or rural USA compared to Montreal urban city life and so I worry more. I have girls – another reason to be stricter and impose more rules. Their dad grew up in Montreal, times were different when he moved around the city. He is more lenient, less worried, willing to let our teenage daughter do more and be more free.

Values, morals and upbringing, they all play a part in this attitude and parenting style…

Parenting can be so complicated sometimes, even without family blending. Doing the best you can, under any circumstance in which you find yourself, is certainly one worthy answer!!!!!!!

Rea, I just do the best I can…. overall. Honestly, no complaints- it is more the teenager that typically causes the stress as ALL teenagers do…..if I could redo primary school and skip to university I would 🙂
